Kuala Lumpur, 23 February — On the very first day of Chinese New Year, a 64-year-old retiree from Bandar Mahkota Cheras, Selangor, turned a simple New Year shopping receipt into a life-changing fortune — winning RM13.4 million in the Da Ma Cai 1+3D Jackpot 1.
“I truly couldn’t believe it,” he said with a smile. “To win something this big on the first day of Chinese New Year — it feels incredibly special. I guess the year has started on the right note.”
He recalled that after enjoying reunion dinner with his family, he casually checked the results through the dmcGO mobile app. When the numbers appeared on the screen, he assumed he had read them incorrectly.
The inspiration for his winning numbers was delightfully simple: a recent purchase for the New Year festivities. “I decided to play the numbers printed on the receipt, just for fun,” he said. “I never imagined that a simple receipt could bring such a life-changing win!”
At first, other family members were in disbelief. But as they gathered to verify each number together, the quiet evening quickly turned into a house filled with cheers, making the festive atmosphere even more joyous.
The retiree has been playing for many years but always with a casual mindset. “I’ve been buying for years and never thought it would be my turn — especially on the first day of Chinese New Year. It makes this win even more meaningful,” he said.
The winner has since retired and now lives a simple life, he plans to use the prize money primarily to improve his family’s well-being. A portion will also be set aside for his children and grandchildren, particularly for future education and financial security.
“At my age, what matters most is my family’s health and well-being,” he said. “This win gives me peace of mind and helps ease some of my children’s burdens.”
